Fiat
850
1964-1973
In 1964, the Fiat 850 was introduced. The engine was based on that of the Fiat 600, but had its capacity increased to 843 cc. At first it was only available as a two-door sedan, but at the 1965 Geneva Motor Show a coupé and spider were presented with the original 843 cc engine, tuned to produce 47 (coupé) or 49 (spider) hp. The spider was designed and built by Bertone in its Grugliasco, Torino plant. In 1966, the Familiare succeeded the 600 Multipla and in 1968 the 850 special was launched. It shared the 47 hp engine of the 850 coupé and offered front disc brakes, sport steering wheel and improved trim. Production of the coupé ended in 1971, of the sedan in 1972 and of the spider in 1973, after altogether nearly 2.3 million models were sold worldwide.
