Sportiva

1967-1971

The Moretti Sportiva was a compact coupé produced by the Moretti Motor Company between 1967 and 1971, based on the engine and chassis of the Fiat 850 Coupé. First shown at the Turin Motor Show in 1965, it was the last Moretti model to offer an exceptional degree of individual customisation, allowing buyers to specify trim and equipment well beyond simple colour choices. Designed by Swiss stylist Dany Brawand, head of Moretti’s styling centre, the Sportiva was offered as a two-seat coupé and initially powered by an 850 cc engine, later enlarged to 982 cc. Its sleek aerodynamic shape required the spare wheel to be mounted horizontally in the front luggage area, eliminating conventional boot space and prompting the addition of a small fabric-lined luggage compartment between the seats and the engine bay. The lack of rear seats proved unpopular with some buyers, leading Moretti to introduce the four-seat S4 variant soon after. Production remained very limited, with roughly 300 Sportivas built in total.
