Vanden Plas

Princess 1100, 1300

1963-1974

The Vanden Plas Princess 1100 was introduced in 1963 as the most luxurious version of BMC’s ADO16 family, which also included models badged as Austin, Morris, MG, and Wolseley. While mechanically identical to its siblings, the Vanden Plas variant featured a completely transformed character thanks to its high-end finish. Built by Vanden Plas at Kingsbury, the Princess 1100 came with hand-polished walnut veneer, leather upholstery, deep-pile carpets, and even rear picnic tables - features more often found in larger executive cars. Externally, it was distinguished by a chrome grille with the Vanden Plas crest, giving the car a more stately appearance. Later joined by the Princess 1300, which offered more power and refinement, the model appealed to buyers who wanted luxury in a compact package.
