Chevrolet
Monza
1974-1980
The Chevrolet Monza was introduced in 1974 as a sporty 2+2 hatchback built on the same H-body platform as the Chevrolet Vega. While it shared much of its underpinnings with the Vega, the Monza featured more distinctive styling and a more upscale, performance-oriented image. It also served as the basis for several badge-engineered models within the General Motors lineup, including the Buick Skyhawk, Oldsmobile Starfire, and Pontiac Sunbird. In April 1975, the Monza range was expanded with the introduction of a coupé. When the Chevrolet Vega was discontinued in 1977, unsold Vega bodies were fitted with a revised front end and rebranded as Monzas, including a station wagon version not originally offered in the Monza lineup.
