Seat

The Seat 124 was introduced in 1968 as the Spanish-built version of the Fiat 124, filling the gap between the compact Seat 600 and 850 and the larger 1500. It quickly became one of Spain's most important family cars, offering modern engineering, practicality and strong value for money. Available as a four-door saloon and five-door Familiar estate, it was powered by a 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine producing initially 60 hp, later increased to 65 hp in the 124 LS. Alongside it, Seat launched the more luxurious and powerful 1430, distinguished by styling cues borrowed from the Fiat 125 and a higher level of equipment. The first generation remained in production until 1974 and laid the foundation for the model's long-running success in Spain.

1971

In 1975 the Seat 124 received a Giugiaro-designed facelift with rectangular headlights, a redesigned rear end and updated styling. At the same time, the 124 and 1430 ranges were merged into the Seat 124 D. Production moved to the Landaben plant in 1976, ending the Familiar estate. The 124 also enjoyed great success in motorsport, with Twin Cam-powered FL versions winning numerous rallies, including a podium finish in the 1977 Monte Carlo Rally. The model remained in production alongside the Seat 131 until it was replaced by the Seat Ritmo in 1980.
