Rolls-Royce

Replacing the long-running Silver Cloud, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was introduced in October 1965 as the brand’s first model with unitary construction instead of a separate chassis. It also featured independent rear suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and a sophisticated self-levelling hydraulic suspension system licensed from Citroën, giving it exceptional ride comfort. Initially powered by the familiar 6.2-litre V8, it received a larger 6.75-litre engine from 1970. The Silver Shadow was available as a four-door saloon, while a two-door coupé and convertible were produced by Mulliner Park Ward.

Named after the famous coastal roads of the French Riviera, the Rolls-Royce Corniche was introduced in March 1971 as an elegant two-door grand tourer, available as both a coupé and a convertible, replacing the two-door Silver Shadow variants. Built by Mulliner Park Ward, it featured Rolls-Royce’s smooth 6.75-litre V8 and effortless refinement. The Corniche quickly became a favourite among celebrities and royalty, remaining a symbol of luxury and exclusivity throughout its remarkable 31-year production run.

The extensively updated Silver Shadow II appeared in 1977, introducing rack-and-pinion steering and revised front suspension for noticeably sharper handling. Externally, the model adopted modern alloy-and-rubber energy-absorbing bumpers and a cleaner front end without the small auxiliary grilles beneath the headlights. While retaining the renowned comfort and refinement of its predecessor, the Silver Shadow II offered a more contemporary driving experience and remained in production until 1980.
