Wolseley

Introduced in December 1958, the Wolseley 15/60 was the first of BMC's Pininfarina-styled mid-sized saloons and shared its body with the Austin A55 Cambridge, Morris Oxford V, MG Magnette Mk III and Riley 4/68. Positioned as the luxury version of the range, it featured leather upholstery, a polished wood dashboard and the distinctive illuminated Wolseley grille badge. Power came from a 1,489 cc four-cylinder engine producing 52 hp, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox. Independent front suspension and a live rear axle ensured comfortable handling. Available in single- or two-tone paint, the 15/60 combined elegant Italian styling with traditional British refinement. A total of 24,579 units were built before it was replaced by the 16/60 in 1961.

Introduced in September 1961, the Wolseley 16/60 received a larger 1,622 cc engine producing 61 hp, along with subtle styling updates including revised rear lights, reduced tailfins and larger bumper overriders. A Borg-Warner automatic transmission became available, although the manual gearbox still lacked synchromesh on first gear. While the other Farina saloons disappeared by 1968, the Wolseley 16/60 remained in production until April 1971, making it the final member of the Farina family.
