4CV

1947-1961

Conceived in secret during the Second World War, the Renault 4CV became one of the most important European cars of the post-war era. Unveiled at the 1946 Paris Motor Show and entering production in 1947, it featured a rear-mounted 747 cc four-cylinder engine and a lightweight monocoque body. The compact four-door was Renault’s first model to sell more than one million units and helped put affordable motoring within reach of a wide audience. The 4CV was praised for its economy and practicality and remained in production until 1961, when it made way for the Renault Dauphine and, shortly afterwards, the Renault 4.
