Peugeot
504
1968-1983
In September 1968, Peugeot unveiled its new flagship model in Paris, three months later than originally planned due to the civil unrest of May 1968. The car was praised for its elegant styling, powerful engine, and high build quality. It quickly gained popularity not only in Europe but also in South America and Africa, where its durability made it ideal for rough, poorly maintained roads. The Peugeot 504 was initially available as a sedan, cabriolet, and coupé. Later, the lineup was expanded to include a station wagon and even a pickup version. With the arrival of the Peugeot 505 in 1979, production of the 504 was gradually scaled back in France, though it continued until 1983. Remarkably, production persisted in Nigeria until 2006, cementing the 504’s reputation as a tough and reliable workhorse across continents.
