In 1967 Opel revived the historic Olympia name for a more luxurious version of the Kadett B. Distinguished by a unique front end, additional trim and often a black vinyl roof, the Olympia A was positioned between the compact Kadett and the increasingly larger Rekord. It was available as a two- or four-door fastback saloon and as a stylish coupé, with engine choices ranging from the 60 hp twin-carburettor 1.1-litre to more powerful 1.5-, 1.7- and 1.9-litre units. Despite its upscale positioning, the Olympia A struggled to establish a clear place in Opel's range. Production ended in 1970 after 80,637 units, making way for the all-new Opel Ascona, which proved a much more successful contender in the emerging mid-size family car segment.
