Versailles

1977-1980

The Lincoln Versailles was a mid-size luxury sedan produced by Ford Motor Company for the Lincoln division between model years 1977 and 1980. Developed as an upscale variant of the Ford Granada and Mercury Monarch, it replaced the Mercury Grand Monarch Ghia and was intended to compete with the Cadillac Seville in the growing market for smaller luxury cars. The Versailles shared much of its body structure with its Ford counterparts, including the roofline, but received distinctive styling cues such as a “Continental spare” decklid with LINCOLN lettering, unique taillamps and rectangular headlamps - the first exposed headlamps on a Lincoln since 1969. Despite these changes, the model struggled to match the success of its Cadillac rival. A total of 50,156 Versailles were produced during its four-year run.
