Land Rover

Range Rover

1970-present

The Range Rover was introduced in June 1970 as a new type of vehicle that combined off-road capability with the comfort and road manners of a passenger car. Developed by Land Rover, it was initially offered only as a two-door model and was powered by a 3.5-litre aluminium V8 engine derived from the Buick design. The Range Rover featured permanent four-wheel drive, coil-spring suspension and disc brakes, giving it excellent performance both on and off the road. Originally conceived as a utilitarian vehicle, the car became bigger and more luxurious, with the off-road element disappearing more and more into the background.
