Lancia

Flavia, 2000

1961-1974

At the 1960 Salone dell'Automobile di Torino the Lancia Flavia was introduced, with sales starting the next year. Initially only a saloon was offered, but it was joined in 1962 by a two-door coupé, designed by Pininfarina on a shortened platform. Vignale built a two-door convertible, while Zagato designed an outlandish-looking lightweight two-door "sport" version.

In May 1967 a rebodied version of the Berlina with a new interior went on sale. The Vignale and Zagato versions were discontinued, while the coupé returned with new bodywork, first presented in March 1969 at the Geneva Motor Show. After Fiat took control of the company in 1971, the Flavia was discontinued and replaced by the Lancia 2000

In 1971 the Lancia 2000 was introduced, a direct evolution of the Flavia, which it replaced. It was the last car independently designed by Lancia engineers before the marque's acquisition by Fiat. Because of the 2000s high production costs, Fiat was not in favor of putting the model into production, despite it being ready for production in 1969. In the absence of any other new Lancia flagship model being ready, the 2000 was nonetheless launched in 1971. The 2000 saloon kept the central part of the body (roof, doors, interior) and the entire drivetrain of its predecessor. The most significant changes were made to the front and rear of the body, where the designers modernised the styling of its predecessor. It was produced until 1974 with a total of 14,319 units being made. The Lancia 2000 coupé was an evolution of the Series II Flavia coupé. The car's bodyshell and interior were designed and made by Pininfarina. The cosmetic changes to the 2000 coupé were largely confined to a new grille with headlamps incorporated into the now wider intake, new bumpers (with rubber strips on the HF), and the tail was shorn of its vestigial tailfins, with a raised and squared decklid.
