Jaguar

Mark IX

1958-1961

Introduced in October 1958, the Jaguar Mark IX was the final evolution of Jaguar’s large post-war luxury saloon line before the arrival of the modern Mark X. Externally, the car closely resembled the earlier Mark VIII, initially differing mainly through its “Mk IX” badging, although later cars received revised tail lamps with integrated amber indicators. Beneath the traditional styling, however, the Mark IX featured significant technical improvements, including a larger 3.8-litre XK straight-six engine, power-assisted recirculating ball steering and four-wheel servo-assisted Dunlop disc brakes - making it the first production Jaguar equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels as standard. Combining strong performance with a luxurious wood-and-leather interior, the Mark IX offered exceptional value compared with far more expensive rivals. Production continued until 1961, with just over 10,000 units built.
