Innocenti
950, 1100 Spider
1961-1968
The Innocenti 950 Spider was introduced at the 1960 Salone dell'Automobile di Torino and entered production early the next year. It was the first design of Tom Tjaarda for Carrozzeria Ghia, the bodyshells were built by Ghia's partner firm OSI. The car was based on the Austin-Healey Sprite, built by Innocenti’s British partner BMC. The original Innocenti 950 Spider had the Frogeye's 948 cc engine with 43 hp, 624 of these were built. Later in 1961 an upgraded 46.5 hp was installed. In February 1963 the 1,098 cc "S" model was introduced, with front disc brakes to cope with the extra power. A total of 4,790 Spiders were built of which 2,074 had the larger 1.1 litre engine.
