1971-1983
The Fiat 127 was launched in April 1971 as the successor to the Fiat 850. Initially available only as a two-door, a three-door version was added in 1972, which quickly became the most popular variant. In 1975, Fiat introduced the 127 Special, offering upgraded trim and features. The 127 was a major success across Europe, thanks to its compact size, front-wheel-drive layout, and practical hatchback design. Its popularity influenced other manufacturers to develop similar models, including the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo, and Peugeot 104.

The second-generation Fiat 127 was introduced in May 1977, featuring a more angular design and a revised interior while retaining the original platform and mechanical layout. Fiat updated the engine range and improved safety and comfort, aiming to keep the model competitive in an increasingly crowded supermini segment. One of the standout versions was the 127 Sport, introduced in June 1978 with a higher output version of the 1,049 cc engine and sportier trim. The 127 stayed in production until 1983, when it was officially replaced by the Fiat Uno, though some variants continued to be built for a few more years in selected markets.
