Datsun
Violet (140J, 160J)
1973-1981
The Datsun Violet, known in many European markets as the 140J and 160J, was introduced in 1973 as a slightly larger and more powerful alternative to the Cherry. Positioned between the smaller Cherry and the larger Bluebird, the Violet offered rear-wheel drive and a choice of 1.4- and 1.6-litre petrol engines, hence the 140J and 160J designations. The Violet gained a reputation for mechanical robustness and affordable ownership, even if it lacked the refinement or image of some European rivals. It was available in multiple body styles, including two- and four-door sedans, coupé, and later station wagon variants, helping to broaden its appeal.
