Introduced for 1977, the Chrysler LeBaron marked the return of a historic name on Chrysler's new entry-level model after the end of the Imperial brand. Developed to compete with the Cadillac Seville and Lincoln Versailles, it was the smallest Chrysler of its time and was available as a four-door sedan, two-door coupé and, from 1978, the Town & Country station wagon. Built on Chrysler's M-platform and closely related to the Dodge Diplomat and Plymouth Caravelle, the LeBaron featured its own distinctive front and rear styling. Buyers could choose between the reliable 225 cu in (3,687 cc) Slant Six or optional 318 cu in (5,212 cc) and 360 cu in (5,899 cc) V8 engines. The first-generation LeBaron remained in production until 1981.
