Sunbeam

1977-1981

After the nationalisation of British Leyland in 1975, Chrysler threatened to close its British factories and managed to obtain state support for the development of a new small car. In February 1977, the Chrysler Sunbeam, based on the Avenger, was launched. However, the model was not a success and – combined with previous losses – Chrysler was eventually forced to sell all European activities to PSA. From the end of 1979, the car was sold as the Talbot Sunbeam, but the curtain fell in 1981.
