Chrysler (UK)
Avenger
1976-1981
In February 1970 the Hillman Avenger was introduced, the first and also the last model developed by Rootes after the takeover by Chrysler. It was a modern car that was marketed under the name Hillman, there were no badge-engineered versions under the name Humber or Singer, but on the European mainland the car was called the Sunbeam. The Avenger was initially only available as a four-door saloon, in 1972 an estate version was introduced and a year later a two-door version. In the US the car was sold as the Plymouth Cricket. In September 1976 the Avenger was given an extensive facelift with a new front, rear and a completely new dashboard. The Hillman name disappeared, the car was now known as the Chrysler Avenger.
