Camaro

1966-present

Concerned with the runaway success of the Ford Mustang, which was introduced in April 1964, Chevrolet executives realized that the sporty version of their compact rear-engine Corvair, the Monza, would never be able to generate a comparable sales volume due to limitations with that layout. Therefore, the Camaro was developed and introduced in September 1966 for the 1967 model year. It used a brand-new rear-wheel-drive platform and was available as a two-door 2+2 seat hardtop and convertible. A six-cylinder 3,768 cc engine was standard, with several V8's available as options.
