Checker

Marathon

1960-1982

The Checker Marathon was introduced in September 1960 as the successor to the Checker Superba, which remained in production for a few more years. Built for durability and space, the Marathon quickly gained an iconic reputation, especially as the classic New York City taxi. Its rugged construction and roomy interior made it ideal for heavy-duty use, with seating for up to nine passengers plus luggage. In addition to the standard sedan, the Marathon was also available as a station wagon and a limousine. The most distinctive version was the Marathon Aerobus, offered in configurations with six or eight doors. The eight-door model could accommodate up to twelve passengers, making it a popular choice for airport shuttles and hotel transport.
