Alpine
A 110
1963-1977
The Alpine A 110 was launched in 1963 as the successor to the A 108 which stayed in production for another two years. The A 110 was produced using parts sourced from the new Renault 8, including the 1,108cc engine. Initially, only a sports coupé (Berlinette) was available, later joined by a cabriolet, both of them featuring a steel backbone chassis and a fiberglass body. In 1967 the aluminium 1,470cc engine from the Renault 16 TS was fitted, allowing for a top speed of 210 km/h.
After Alpine's acquisition by Renault in 1971, the A 110 achieved most of its fame as a successful rally car. A variety of engines was used during the seventies, the most powerful one being the 1,605cc fuel-injection engine of the Renault 17 TS. Versions of the A 110 have been built under license in Mexico, Bulgaria and Spain. French production ended in 1977, while in Spain it continued for another year.
