Alfa Romeo
Spider
1966-1993
The Spider was launched at the 36th Geneva Motor Show in March 1966 as the successor to the Giulietta Spider. It was the last project of the legendary Battista “Pinin” Farina who died less than a month after the presentation in Geneva. The design was derived from a number of Pininfarina designed concept cars, most notably the Superflow which was first shown at the 1956 Salone dell'Automobile di Torino. In January 1968 the 1,570cc engine was replaced by the new 1,779cc engine and in June of the same year the Spider 1300 junior was added to the range.

In 1970 the first significant change to the exterior styling was introduced with the distinctive elongated round tail revised to a Kamm tail, improving luggage space. In 1971 the Spider Veloce 2000 succeeded the 1750 and a year later the 1600 Spider restarted production as the Spider 1600 Junior. The 1300 model was discontinued in 1977.
