TVR
M-series
1972-1979
Built between 1972 and 1979, the TVR M-series represented a bold step forward for the Blackpool manufacturer. Replacing the outgoing Vixen and Tuscan models, the M-series retained TVR’s trademark recipe of lightweight fiberglass bodies mounted on a tubular steel chassis, but introduced greater refinement and practicality than its predecessors. The range included the 1600M, 2500M, 3000M, Taimar, and 3000S, each offering varying levels of performance and equipment. Engines were sourced from Ford and Triumph, with outputs ranging from modest four-cylinders to lusty sixes, the latter giving the cars genuinely impressive pace for their size. The 3000M, powered by Ford’s 2,994 cc V6, became the backbone of the series, capable of delivering strong performance and a top speed well in excess of 190 km/h. While every model carried TVR’s characteristic blend of sharp handling and raw driving experience, the Taimar of 1976 added a practical hatchback rear, and the 3000S of 1978 introduced the marque’s first true convertible. In total, just over 2,500 M-series cars were built, making them relatively rare, yet they remain among the most distinctive and characterful British sports cars of the 1970s.
