Maserati

150

1955-1957

At the April 1955 Salone dell'Automobile di Torino, Maserati unveiled the 150 S. It was a racing car, not intended for regular street use. It was built alongside the Maserati 200 S, to take over for the aging A6 racing variants. Depending on the source, between twenty-four and twenty-eight units were built, including a street-going version, called the Maserati 150 GT. The project Tipo 53 was designed by engineer and racing driver Vittorio Bellentani in 1953 and utilized a 1,484 cc engine. The first series had a Maserati 300 S-inspired body developed by Celestino Fiandri and it had a tubular frame chassis, similar to that of the A6 GCS. Most of the cars built were sold to customers who competed as privateers. The best result for the 150 S came when Jean Behra won the half-sized 1,000 km Nürburgring in 1955, beating 13 Porsches among others.
