Gilbern

Invader

1969-1973

In July 1969 the Gilbern Invader was introduced. It was one of the first cars ever to come out of Wales, had a fibre-glass body and was hand-made. It was based on the previous Gilbern model, the Genie but the front suspension now came from the MGC and the chassis was strengthened. It took the brand further upmarket with fittings such as electric windows and walnut-veneered dashboard. From 1970 a stationcar version was also produced.

Launched in September 1972, the Mk III version had Ford Cortina front suspension and was restyled front and rear. The engine was the higher tune unit from the Ford Capri 3000 GT. The body was produced using new moulds and was both wider and lower than that of the earlier Invader.
