Laurel (1800, 2000, 200L)

1968-2002

In April 1968 Nissan presented its new Laurel, a four-door sedan equipped with a 1,815 cc four-cylinder engine and independent rear suspension. In June 1970 a two-door hardtop coupé joined the lineup and one year later a 1,990 cc engine became available in the sedan. The Laurel did not sell as expected, largely because the design was too similar to that of the smaller, cheaper Bluebird. Nevertheless, eight generations of Laurel have been manufactured, marketed as either the Laurel or the 200L in Europe.

In April 1972 the second generation appeared, again as a four-door saloon and two-door hardtop coupé. In October 1973 a six-cylinder 2,565 cc engine was added, which was replaced by a larger six-cylinder 2,753 cc engine in September 1975.
