1968-1984
In april 1964 startte Saab Project Gudmund, bedoeld om een auto te ontwikkelen die groter zou worden dan de Saab 96. In november 1967 werd de Saab 99 gepresenteerd, terwijl de productie pas eind 1968 zou starten. In 1970 kwam er naast de tweedeurs ook een vierdeurs versie op de markt. In 1984 werd de auto opgevolgd door de Saab 90.
