The Seat 133 was unveiled at the Barcelona Motor Show in May 1974 as an in-house Seat design, combining the proven rear-engined mechanicals of the Seat 850 with modern styling inspired by the Fiat 126. It replaced both the long-running Seat 600 and 850, offering an affordable entry-level car for the Spanish market. Although early sales were hampered by overheating issues, the 133 proved more successful abroad, with many cars exported as the Fiat 133 to markets where the Seat brand was unknown. Around 200,000 were built in Spain by 1979, while production for export continued until 1982. The model marked the end of Seat's rear-engined era before the company fully embraced front-wheel-drive designs.
