DAF
66
1972-1976
The DAF 66 was introduced in 1972 as the successor to the DAF 55. While it retained much of the previous model’s layout, the 66 featured a redesigned front end and a new rear axle construction, resulting in improved ride comfort and handling. It continued to use the familiar Variomatic CVT system and the Renault-sourced 1,108 cc four-cylinder engine. As with the 55, the 66 was available in sedan, station wagon, and coupé body styles. The popular Marathon version, with sportier trim and enhanced performance, remained part of the lineup. DAF also developed a military version based on the 66 platform, known as the YA-66, used by the Dutch armed forces in light-duty roles. Following Volvo’s acquisition of DAF’s passenger car division in the mid-1970s, the 66 was lightly restyled and continued in production as the Volvo 66 until 1980.
