Giulietta

1954-1965

At the Salone dell'Automobile di Torino in 1954 the Giulietta Sprint was shown to the public for the first time and the response was so overwhelming that hundreds of cars had to be built by hand before the production line was even ready. The next year, the Berlina was presented in Turin, a few months later followed by the Pinin Farina styled Spider. At the end of 1956 the first Sprint Zagato was made, but it only entered the market in 1960. They were all handbuilt and came with an aluminium body and plexiglass windows. In October 1957 the Giulietta Sprint Speciale was shown at the Salone dell'Automobile di Torino which went into production in June 1959.

In the autumn of 1961 the Giulietta received a major update; both the engines and bodies were revised. Most notable changes were the new grille and larger tail lights. June 1962 saw the introduction of the new Giulia which would eventually become the successor to the Giulietta. Late 1962 the last standard Giulietta was produced, while the t.i. remained in production for another year. As of June 1962 the Sprint, Sprint Speciale and Spider received the new 1.6 liter engine and some minor updates and were consequently sold under the Giulia name until they were replaced by all-new Giulia-based models during 1965.
