Renault
10
1965-1971
The Renault 10 was introduced in September 1965 as the successor to the Renault 8 Major. Essentially a more upmarket evolution of the Renault 8, it featured a lengthened front overhang that allowed for a significantly larger front luggage compartment, increasing capacity from 240 to 315 litres. While the central passenger cell remained unchanged, both the front and rear ends were redesigned to give the car a more formal and substantial appearance. Power came from the 1,108 cc engine already used in higher-spec Renault 8 versions and derived from the Renault Caravelle. Initially fitted with round headlights, the Renault 10 received a facelift in 1967 that introduced rectangular headlamps, further distinguishing it visually from the Renault 8. In France, however, the model struggled against the more modern and commercially successful Peugeot 204, launched the same year. Production in France ended in the summer of 1971, by which time the Renault 10 had overlapped for two years with the newer Renault 12, while the Renault 8 remained on sale domestically until 1973.
