Peugeot

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1975, the Peugeot 604 marked the brand's return to the executive car segment for the first time since the Peugeot 601 of the 1930s. Styled by Pininfarina, the elegant saloon combined understated design with a spacious interior and excellent ride comfort. Mechanically, it shared much of its platform with the Peugeot 504 and was usually powered by the new 2.7-litre V6 engine, developed jointly with Renault and Volvo. In 1979 Peugeot also introduced the first production turbodiesel passenger car sold in Europe, further broadening the range. Although praised for its comfort, handling and refinement, the 604 struggled against established German luxury rivals and suffered from the aftermath of the 1973 oil crisis. Production ended in 1985 after 153,252 units had been built, making it a relatively rare Peugeot today.
