Peugeot

Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September 1969, the Peugeot 304 was designed to bridge the gap between the smaller 204 and the larger 504. While it shared much of the 204's platform and mechanical components, Pininfarina gave the 304 a longer and more elegant appearance. The range expanded to include a saloon, estate, van, stylish coupé and elegant two-seat cabriolet. Power came from a 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine, with the sporty S versions of the coupé and cabriolet receiving a more powerful twin-carburettor engine in 1972. Later in its career, Peugeot also introduced economical diesel variants. Combining practicality, comfort and attractive styling, the 304 became one of Peugeot's greatest successes of the 1970s. Production ended in 1980 after more than 1.17 million units had been built.
