BMW

The 1600-2 was an entry-level BMW and was smaller, less expensive and less well-appointed than the New Class Sedan on which it was based. It made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1966. A cabriolet and a high performance version, the 1600 TI, were introduced in September 1967, while in 1968 the 2002 entered the market.

In 1971 the 02-series received a small facelift. The 1600-2 was now called 1602 and the 3-door hatchback Touring and the 1802 model were introduced. The cabriolet received the 1,990 cc engine and was now the 2002 cabriolet, with a large rollbar and fixed window frames. At the 1973 Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung the 2002 turbo was introduced, Europe's first turbocharged production car. The last of the 02-series models, the 1502 was introduced in 1975. It was an economy model with an engine displacement of 1,573 cc as the 1602 but with less power. While the rest of the 02-series was replaced in 1975 by the new 3-series, the 1502 continued until 1977.
