Audi

In September 1965 a new Audi was presented, a name that had been dormant since before the Second World War. The F103 bodyshell was a development of the earlier DKW F102. The main difference was the engine; where DKW employed a two-stroke engine, the new car had a four-stroke engine. The engine compartment had to be extended so that the new four-cylinder engine could be accommodated. To signify the change, the DKW marque was dropped in favour of Audi. The first model was launched simply as the Audi, later being renamed the Audi 72 (72 being the power output of the engine in hp). In 1966, the more powerful Audi 80 and 90 were introduced, followed by the more basic Audi 60 in 1968.

In 1969, the Audi F103 range was streamlined when the Audi 72 and Audi 80 were discontinued and replaced by a single model: the Audi 75. This rationalisation simplified the lineup, which remained in production until 1972, when they were replaced by the all-new Audi 80.
