Cordoba
1974-1983
The Chrysler Cordoba was introduced in late 1974 as a personal luxury coupé. Positioned as a more upscale offering within Chrysler's lineup, the Cordoba was notable for being one of the brand's first entries into the mid-size personal luxury segment, a market previously dominated by GM. Despite the timing of its launch during the 1973 oil crisis, the Cordoba was an immediate commercial success. Its distinctive styling, plush interiors, and heavy marketing helped it stand out. Interestingly, while the mechanically similar but cheaper Dodge Charger SE struggled in sales, the Cordoba consistently outsold it, highlighting the appeal of Chrysler's more refined positioning. Sales began to decline after 1977, when Chrysler introduced the smaller LeBaron coupe, which cannibalized part of the Cordoba's market. The launch of the second-generation Cordoba in late 1979 failed to reverse the downward trend. In 1983, after nearly a decade in production, Chrysler ended the Cordoba line altogether.
